Interesting article. I have been living in Utila, Honduras for 1.5 years now, and never encountered anything bad. It is sad that Honduras does get such a bad reputation, when the Bay Islands are actually very safe. And mainland Honduras if also very safe for tourists, as long as you stay away from the drug trade.Sorry, just my opinion. I find it sad that tourist struggles here. Thanks a lot for posting!

Many tourist destinations are indeed quite safe if you don’t go off the beaten path. Most large cities have areas that have unsavory aspects. It’s amazing what happens when you avoid them.
