A longtime original attraction, The Haunted Mansion underwent a makeover a few years ago.  The newly added interactive queue makes the wait a little more entertaining.  As with most Disney attractions, there is plenty of history in the ride.  Many of the names in the graveyard symbolize people with significance to the development of Disney World and especially The Haunted Mansion.

Throwback Thursday – Pollo Campero

Pollo Campero

If you’ve spent time at Downtown Disney you have probably noticed Pollo Campero, an international chain restaurant featuring fresh and healthy choices to it’s clients.  If you haven’t seen it at Downtown Disney, you have missed it.  As of March 19,  2014 the restaurant closed this location.

We often enjoyed the chicken and especially the Campero Beans.  They had become a regular lunch stop during a day of shopping. While the entire Downtown Disney is undergoing a huge makeover and update, I will personally miss this restaurant.

Anna and Elsa are on the move.

Anna and Elsa, from Disney’s Academy Award-winning film “Frozen,” will soon move from Epcot to Magic Kingdom Park! Starting April 20, they’ll join some of their fellow Disney Royals at Princess Fairytale Hall, where Disney FastPass+ service will be available for this character greeting experience.

Music to my ears!

It was recently announced that on March 9, 2014 the Festival of Fantasy Parade at the Magic Kingdom will debut.   It is a celebration of the new Fantasyland, but what fun would a parade be without music?

Take a behind the scenes look at the creation of the soundtrack for the parade.

Maple Crème Brulee Recipe from Le Cellier Steakhouse

Posted on

Many of the Signature restaurants in Disney World have a signature version of Creme Brulee.  Non of the restaurants have a duplicate flavor and all are related to the theme of the restaurant.  Below is the recipe for the Maple creme Brulee from Le Cellier Steakhouse in EPCOT.

Which is your favorite?

Maple Crème Brulee Recipe from Le Cellier Steakhouse

Ingredients

2 3/4 cups Heavy cream
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
8 Egg Yolks
1 1/2 tablespoons pure maple extract
12 teaspoons sugar for caramelized topping

Yield: 6 servings

Method

Preheat oven to 325°F. Place six 3/4 cup custard cups in a large roasting pan.

Combine cream, milk and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Slowly bring mixture to a simmer, whisking constantly to dissolve sugar. When sugar is dissolved, stir every few minutes while the mixture is heating to avoid scalding.

When small bubbles appear round edges, remove milk mixture from heat.

Whisk egg yolks and maple extract together in a large bowl. Slowly add hot cream mixture to egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly. Divide among custard cups in pan.

Pour enough hot water into roasting pan to come halfway up sides of custard cups. Bake custards until center moves only slightly when cups are gently shaken, about 55 minutes. Remove custards from pan. Refrigerate until thouroughly cool.

Sprinkle 2 teaspoons sugar evenly over each custard. Working with 1 custard at a time, hold kitchen torch so that flame is 2 inches above surface. Direct flame so that sugar melts and browns, about 2 minutes. Garnish with fruit preserves and a cookie, if desired.

If you don’t have a kitchen torch, preheat broiler. Sieve 2 teaspoons brown sugar atop each custard. Place dishes on small baking sheet. Broil until sugar just starts to caramelize, rotating sheet for even browning, about 2 minutes. Then chill until topping hardens, about 2 hours.

Throwback Thursday

Posted on

Let’s try to have a little bit of fun.  On Thursdays, I am going to try to go back into the Disney past and revive a memory or two of something that is no longer a part of Disney.  Maybe a ride, a restaurant or something else fun.

Today is the Railroad that used to operate moving people around Fort Wilderness at Disney World.  Due to the sandy land and ongoing maintenance issues, the railroad was eventually removed but continues to live in our memories.

FastPass+ – Love It or Hate It?

Posted on

Disney World has recently gone to the new FastPass+ system for their rides and attractions.  It allows resort guests to pre select and reserve some of their attractions and times to enjoy those attractions.  If you are not a resort guest, you may still reserve your favorite attractions, but you cannot receive your reservations until you are inside the parks.

The reception to the new system much like any other change is receiving mixed reviews.  What do you think of the new system?
